Imagine how much better computing could be today if Bill Gates had not turned it into a walled garden and then used his money to keep people from leaving it.

We might have actually ended up with a good UI.

food, potatoes.

Is there anything better than sautéed new potatoes with rosemary? (Except garlic mushrooms)

Anyone have suggestions for interesting books on botany for someone just learning, preferably illustrated?

Me: I will not eat the whole pineapple, it will make me sick.

Also me: nom nom nom.

Moving from Hugo to my own static site builder has been the best thing I did. Huge bloat of a package and it was a constant struggle to theme and bend to my will.

My own tool is tiny in size, builds my whole site in about 4mS, easy to customise and isn’t full of unnecessary features.

The hugo debug server seemed like a good idea when I first saw it but opening the html file in your browser and hitting refresh is just as good, if not better.

When did software all become so clunky.

Talking with my wife last night we both agreed that picking up reading again has both made us feel like our brains have started working again.

Another thing we have been doing at home is leaving our phones upstairs during the day. We both feel like we have a lot of extra attention and feel calmer.

Positive feeling in this house at the moment.

Sat down to try and do something productive this morning before the little one got up. Spent the time drinking tea, watching birds out the window and playing with a pine cone. Don’t have the go in me to be productive today, done enough recently. Going to rest today.

First sofa outing for my newly configured lap modular. First outing for teletype too.

I mean, if software tools were as good as they keep saying then this should be a simple 3 line affair.

setColour;
setPizelLocation;
doTheDrawingOfThePixel;

That should be all it takes to set a pixel anywhere on the screen any colour.

Why is it so difficult to just write a pixel to the screen. Surely this fundamental thing a computer needs fo do should be as simple as it gets.

Heya, I'm Elda King, a nerd from Brazil.

I have been on Mastodon for a while but just moved here. On this account I'll be mostly tooting about games (boardgames but also probably computer games).

I am looking for information and stories about lighthouse keeping and lighthouses in general for a project. I know I have some sailors on the fedi, anyone have any interesting tidbits or stories they can link me to? Journals of lighthouse keepers? books of poetry about lighthouses?

If this goes well this year I might become our neighbourhood lavender guy. Ill just grow loads of cuttings and leave the plants out on the pavement for people to take for free. Bees love this stuff so it’s going to be good to boost the number of pollinators in the area. Also I might plant them in the road verges.

The lavender clippings have not died yet which is promising. Hopefully I will have 3 more lavender plants before long.
