Walking new people into the #bgg hobby is like people getting into cigars, wine or scotch/whiskey. You have to get them started on an easy, light, palatable experience before you start to introduce deeper, richer more complex experiences.
I once made the mistake of introducing some right into Dominant Species with 6 players. 3+ hours later her response was, "I was just waiting for it to end."
@carlozancanaro What turned you off of FoD?
@robert The guy playing Dracula was experienced at the game, for most of the hunters it was our first game. Dracula decided the beginner rules were too boring, so we'd play with all of Dracula's powers. The entire game (several hours worth of time) was just him doing things we didn't understand, or know he could do, to crush us.
@carlozancanaro yeah, that’ll do it too.
@robert It's also worth bearing in mind what people's first impression of a game will be. I'm fairly into board games, but my first experience of Fury of Dracula (third edition) was so bad I now avoid it completely.
