I would use PixelFed more if, you know, posting a photo wasn't an ever-changing abysmal experience. I dislike to poo-poo on a solid FOSS project, but the lack of focus on getting something so critical to the core functionally is alarming.

@robert Thanks for the feedback, anything specific we could improve in the Compose UI/UX?

We are still working on the 4th iteration and I haven't heard much negative feedback so I'm very curious to hear your response!

@dansup 1. The camera icon to post a photo is too small and on my iphone, it is incredibly hard to press with my fat fingers. 2. Why present me with three posting options; I see that was is on the 4th version, and is in beta, but I am unsure what the differense is between the other two options. 3. When I choose photos, the preview makes it to where I need to scroll up to make any entries. 4. Once there, what is the actual difference between Opt image description and caption?

complaining, pixelfed

@dansup The additional overhead of navigating the UI is just too much.

@robert Thanks for replying! I will bring this up to the team and see how we can improve on the points you've mentioned.

@dansup Excellent. I know you are active and this is a passion project. Have you ever heard the phrase, "Write without fear, edit without mercy?" I suspect editing (or having a critical eye) is something that your team is failing you at. (Not a negative thing; just an observation.) Scope creep is a problem, and I think it might be here. Alternate UI's are a distraction when the main feature (posting a photo online) still is in design/development stages.

complaining, pixelfed

@robert I haven't heard that phrase, our lack of mobile web testing across more devices is my fault.

Again, thanks for the feedback and look forward to seeing you on Pixelfed once we address the points you've made!

@dansup You all are doing a GREAT job! Don't take this negatively. Great books are heavily edited. Clarity of focus can only come with these kinds of discussions. There is no blame to place. Keep at it! I am rooting for PixelFed!!!!

@dansup I also just realized, looking at my original toot, that I was complaining. Forgive me. I should've framed it originally more positively.

complaining, pixelfed

@robert No worries, the feedback you provided is valid!

@dansup My idiocy just goes to show how important your work is. I have been sitting here thinking about how I would make the changes I bitched about better, and I don't know that I could come up with something better. Having more human-centered software is _really_ important. You are fighting for our future! :D

complaining, pixelfed

@robert @dansup I think I can pop in on caption vs opt image description: caption is just what it sounds like - a caption, which may or may not be related to the image. The opt image description is "alt-text", which is intended for screen readers and other aids to describe what the image shows to, e.g. blind people.

complaining, pixelfed

@robert @dansup That is, in case you were genuinely wondering about it rather than thinking that the UI should clarify it :)

complaining, pixelfed

@pettter @dansup Yes, I would think the UI would normally explain it to a lay person. "Image Description" should be "describe what is in the image." And probably should have a link to why it matters. 🤷‍♂️
